The Urban Development Dept. , Govt. of Maharashtra expressed its desire vide letter dated 30/10/2006 to notify fringe area of Latur and appoint CIDCO as its Special Planning Authority. After a series of meetings with officers at local level, site visits and collecting all relevant statistical details of the socio economic profile of the area, maps, and ongoing Govt. schemes, CIDCO has submitted its proposal to notify the fringe area admeasuring approx. 26541.00 ha. inclusive of urbanizable zone of about 16696 ha. Govt. has appointed CIDCO as Special Planning Authority under Section 40(i)(b) of the MR&TP Act, 1966 on 03.01.2008 vide its notification no. TPS/385/CR78/2007/UD-30”. The notified area covers 40 villages on the fringe of Latur Municipal Council.
CIDCO Board of Directors vide Resolution No.9913 dated 7.7.2008 has approved the proposal to declare its intention under section 23 of MR&TP Act, 1966 for preparation and publication of Draft Development Plan for Latur Fringe Area. The notification in this regard is published in Maharashtra Govt. Gazette vide dated 24/07/2008.
It is envisaged in the project not to acquire 100% land but to adopt minimum land acquisition model for development of infrastructure and growth corridors.
