 Vasai - Virar Subregion

The State Government appointed CIDCO the Special Planning Authority for the Vasai-Virar region in 1990. When CIDCO was handed the project, what it received was a haphazard and unwieldy developing land. The main problems were related to drainage, sewerage, water supply and roads.
CIDCO started improving the situation by taking action along the following lines:
• Declaring its intention to prepare the development plans of the Vasai-Virar region, as required, under the MR & TP Act, 1966
• Taking up the grant of development permissions for the urbanizable area referred to in the interim order in High Court
• Agreeing in principle to share the cost of aerial survey of the region with National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA), Hyderabad
• Taking up the preparation of crash plans for the urbanizable areas
• Starting the process of undertaking a survey of all the developed area

From this project CIDCO has till 31/12/2007 received Rs 39175.59 lakhs under various heads. The major ones being Interest free loan from the State Govt. (Rs 400 lakhs), Development Charges (Rs 9962.36 lakhs), water source development charges(Rs 254.56 lakhs), Fire Cess (Rs 293.06 lakhs) and Miscellaneous receipts ( Rs 14939.34 lakhs) inclusive of scrutiny fees, security deposits, premium, unauthorised occupancy charges, compounding charges, environment cess etc.
An expenditure of Rs 275.17 lakhs on preliminary survey and investigations, Rs 2269.16 lakhs on laying physical infrastructure like roads and storm water drains, Rs 191.05 lakhs on laying water supply pipe lines, Rs 18 lakhs as contribution to MSEB for shifting of electric poles, Rs 300 lakhs to MJP as contribution to Usgaon water supply scheme, Rs 40.08 lakhs to PWD for upgradation of roads, Rs 200 lakhs as part funding of the ROB under construction at Virar and Rs 50 lakhs as part funding of the Fire Station bldg has been made till the end of 2007. Thus total expenditure of Rs 5270.24 lakhs has been made by 31/12/2007. It includes all the components listed above and expenditure on administrative, establishment, Maintenance and Repairs heads as well.
