Navi Mumbai has open spaces and gardens dotted almost uniformly across all the nodes. CIDCO, since inception has developed over 120 gardens and planted nearly 1.7 million trees in Navi Mumbai. About 45% of land in Navi Mumbai is earked for ‘open to sky’ user.
These add beauty to the community and heighten people's awareness
and appreciation for living things. They filter rainwater, and help to keep lakes, rivers, and groundwater clean. They restore oxygen in the atmosphere and help to reduce air pollution. They also provide a place to retreat from the noise and commotion of urban environments. They also increase property values in the immediate vicinity where they are located.
They also offer unique opportunities to teach youth about issues of environmental sustainability. These can bring them closer to nature, and allow them to interact with each other in a socially meaningful and physically productive way.
Chintaman Rao Deshmukh,Savarkar Garden and Alliance Nursery,in Sector 8, Bhaurao Patil Garden in Sector 1 and Play Garden in Sector 15 of Vashi Node.
Gavaskar Maidan in Sector-8 and Rajiv Gandhi Maidan in Sector 8B are popular places for exercise in CBD Belapur node. The public parks and gardens in this node include Shivajirao Patil Garden in Sector 4A and Ramchandra Naik Playground in Sector 8 in Kopar Khairane node. CIDCO is pursuing its endeavor to enrich the environment. To develop a big open space a Green Project is implemented with peripheral tree
plantation and public maidan/ playground in the centre is being undertaken in Nerul node. CIDCO is developing 5 Ha. Of land along seaward side of Palm Marg in sec 6 through Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), a NGO and ICICI Bank.
BNHS shall select plant and maintain nearly a thousand indigenous species of trees viz. flowering trees, aromatic trees, trees which attract birds and species, trees which would form a canopy to help joggers/ walkers in consonance with natural environment around it. This project shall be a welcome addition to growing list of eco-friendly projects undertaken by CIDCO. Nerul node includes Vallabhbhai Patel Udyan in Sec-9, Acharya Udyan in Sec-5, three gardens in sector 19, Two gardens in Sector 21, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Udyan in Sec-9, Nehru Udyan in Sec-3, Chatrapati Udyan Sec-2 and Anna Sathe Udyan in sector 15. The gardens and parks include Ambedkar Garden in Sec-2, Chinchawali Udyan in Sec-5, Madhavi Garden in Sec-7 and Shivaji Maharaj Play Ground in Sector-1 in Airoli Node.
In Sanpada node, Sitaram Master Garden in Sector 7 attracts the fitness enthusiasts.
The New Panvel node houses CIDCO gardens in sector-8 and in Khanda colony. The other allotted areas include garden spaces in sector 3, 10, 12 and 16. In Kalamboli node, garden spaces have been reserved by CIDCO in sectors 1, 2,3,4,5 and 12.
In Kharghar a park is ready for inauguration in Sector 12 opposite to Shilp Chowk. The mega Central Park in line with International Parks is on anvil. The other parks in Sector 7 and 20 are already earmarked for CIDCO gardens.
