Recreation

Navi Mumbai is endowed with many natural features that are unique in its own way. The Thane creek stretching all along Navi Mumbai coast for
nearly 120 km. creates the magic of serene solitude. The majestic hill ranges provide a picturesque canvas. The greenery and the undulatinglandscape of the Regional Park area of Ulwe is a monsoon delight. The Kharghar hill Plateau offers breathtaking views of the Urban Landscape.

Existing settlements as well as urban development have created additional avenues for development of facilities which could also contribute to the Tourism potential. The Dronagiri boat festival which iscelebrated with colourful flags fluttering on the masts of hundreds of native fishing boats offers a glorious sight and a festive occasion of
tourism. International cruises could dock at JNPT or a specially constructed jetty off Ulwe coast or everyday catamaran rides offering entertainment and cultural delights similar to Goa and the Nile. These are only a few glimpses of the Tourism potential at Navi Mumbai. Lot of
initiative is being taken up for future development of Navi Mumbai in this
front. Some of the key projects related to the development of tourism which are existing plan to be taken up are listed below:

Mini Seashore

A strip of land in Vashi along the coast of Thane creek has been developed as a park and is popularly known as the "Mini Seashore" or "Seaside Park". The park is separated from the creek by a large holding
pond, which is surrounded by a path that is used as a walking/jogging track. Residents of Vashi and nearby nodes frequently use this area for recreation, relaxation and exercise. Hundreds walk or run along the track and over the embankment of the holding pond everyday. Local laughter clubs and tennis enthusiasts can be seen utilizing the park in the mornings. Paddle boats are rented out for use within the outer pond. Children's rides, horseback riding and vendors ofrefreshments are a common sight along the Mini Seashore in the evenings.

Kharghar–Pandav Caves

Kharghar node is the upcoming Node with tremendous scope for infusion of new concepts, ideas and systems which will set new benchmarks for urban development. The Pravesh Marg and the state-of-art roads, street lighting and greenery at Kharghar are examples of a great creative thought process which is being translated into reality phase wise. The seasonal Kharghar water falls along with the mythological Pandav caves form a tourism package and offer scope for development of additional facilities thereby increasing the Tourism potential manifold. The seemingly endless waterfront along with the holding ponds offer scope for redefining promenades and passive recreation.

‘Utsav’ chowk located at junction of (sec 4, 5 6 and 12) are good hangouts for morning joggers and ideal evening strolls. The evening lumination and fountains add on beauty to the unique structure that attracts all the ages. A similar contemporary structure known as ‘Shilp chowk along with a public garden carries the distinct look among the surrounding residential zone.

Fair Grounds

These parks can accommodate Melas and Social gatherings of larger scale. These grounds usually come alive during Ganapathi festival which is celebrated with pomp and pageantry. Circuses and Exhibitions could also be conducted on these grounds. Two sites have been selected, one admeasuring 2.02 Ha in Sector 30A of Vashi and the other admeasuring 0.5 Ha in Sector 19 of Airoli Node. The proposed location at Vashi is prominent and is the focus of the city with events taking place all the year round.

Valley Park

Green spaces and trees as the ‘lungs of the city’ undulating hill slopes, rolling landforms, water streams, ponds adjacent to city are proposed to be brought under the umbrella of ‘Navi Mumbai Nature Park’. Valley Park is a part of Navi Mumbai Nature Park, towards bringing the dream into reality. The area of valley which is easily accessible, actively used by the
public and which needs minimum intervention is selected. The valley situated at Sector-9, CBD Belapur node is rich in flora and fauna. The Valley Park was inaugurated on the eve of World Environment Day – 5th
