  Major Economic Centers

Navi Mumbai was originally planned in order to decongest Mumbai city and its environs as attractive business destination. Its economic base is unique with private sector activities related to wholesale trading and processing of agricultural produce, iron and steel stockyards, port based commercial and industrial activities, private and public sector offices, training and R&D centers in selected District Business Centers (DBCs), Central Business District (CBD) and the fast emerging industrial belts along Thane – Belapur Road and Taloja. In addition to fulfilling this primary role, it continued to prosper as the commercial hub with individual character. As a planned city, areas are demarked and reserved for these special purposes by the CIDCO for appropriate commercial and trade establishments.
