The SEZ project located is spread over 4,377 Ha of area, starting from Dronagiri, of which, 1800 Ha comes under Regional Park Zone. CIDCO will hold 26% equity in the project. Modelled along the lines of China’s Special Economic Zone (like Shenzen), it will function as a red-tape free deemed foreign territory and shall be exempt from most of the duty restrictions of the land. World-class facilities that will boost the industrial activities in Maharashtra, in general and Navi Mumbai, in particular, shall be provided here. NMSEZ will provide nearly 5 lacs jobs when fully functional.

Considering the ever-increasing air travel demand in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) coupled with limitation of enhancing the area capacity of present Mumbai Airport, Government of Maharashtra in consultation with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India has decided to develop the second Airport at Navi Mumbai. An area of about 1610 Ha has been earmarked for airport (1140 Ha) and airport related activities (470Ha). It is expected that the development of airport will create additional job to the tune of 1.00 lakh and would bring the investment in the Region worth Rs. 5,000 crore.

CIDCO has proposed to implement municipal solid waste management system as per MSW Rule 2000 for CIDCO area of Navi Mumbai. This system comprises of two components one for collection, transfer and transportation of solid waste up to the site of processing and final disposal and the second component comprising development, operation and maintenance of waste processing and disposal facility. The SWM System is designed on 14.46 Ha areas at village Chal near Taloja MIDC. The System comprises of the Weigh Bridge, segregation area, preprocessing plant, compost area, engineered landfill and leachate holding pond. Segregation area would facilitate segregation into biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste and further segregation into recyclable for storage and non-recyclable waste for disposal. The biodegradable waste will be shredded and placed on to the compost platform for composing in an organic fertilizer. The landfill would be developed in 5 main cells to make the SWM System environment friendly and pollution free. Soil bund will be constructed along the periphery of the landfill. Side and bottom liner comprised of clay and HDPE liner with drainage layer will prevent ground water contamination. Perforated HDPE pipes will collect leachate and carry to sump well. The leachate from the sump would be pumped out to Leachate Holding Pond for further treatment. A thick tree belt of 20 meter width will be developed on the periphery. This modern environment friendly, pollution free SWM System will take care of waste generated in the years to come and in turn would certainly complement the Navi Mumbai and neighbouring area Residents’ life style, energizing the livelihood of the entire community.
