CIDCO felicitated for outstanding contribution in built environment
Indian Architect and Builders, a well-known magazine devoted to the field of planning and architecture, has conferred on CIDCO an award for its 'outstanding contribution in built environment'. On behalf of CIDCO's Vice Chairman & Managing Director Shri. Ashok Sinha, Chief Architect and Planner Shri. Dinkar Samant receveid the award on Wednesday, 14th December 2005 at Bandra-Kurla Complex in a glittering function.
The citation given to CIDCO states, "from a marshy land into a swanky, glittering hub - Navi Mumbai has come a long way over the past 35 years. Evolving from vast tract of totally undeveloped land to a new metro centre, the innovative schemes and measures devised by City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd. (CIDCO), to tackle ground realities in Navi Mumbai and to mobilise resources for a cost-effective implementation of projects are commendable examples of innovative urban infrastructure planning and management".
The state government established CIDCO in 1970 for a planed development of Navi Mumbai. In last 35 years CIDCO has transformed a marshyland below hightide level into a modern and well-develop metro. In the process, CIDCO has implemented innovative schemes and majors as well as utilized land as capital. The honour has come to CIDCO as a recognition to CIDCOs' contribution in the best administration, town planning and developing of physical infrastructure.
In over three decades of developing Navi Mumbai, CIDCO has executed Dutch method of reclamation, constructed housing schemes with innovative technology, railway stations as architectural marvels, utilized the floor space above railway station for commercial purpose and maintained balance in environment by planting saplings and developing gardens.
To be in tune with the infotech age CIDCO has developed International Infotech Park & International Technology Centre in this metro. To create employment opportunity it has also developed Agriculture Produce Market Complex and Central Business District in different nodes. Keeping an eye on future CIDCO has also planned for the Special Economic Zone and International Airport (proposed) in Navi Mumbai.
