Introduction
CIDCO is a New Towns Development Authority entrusted with the job of development of new towns. CIDCO has been carrying out its activities accordingly and developed many towns since 1970. However, it was necessary to provide civic services including sanitation services to the residents in absence of local authority with this view in mind, the Public Health Department was established in 1977, which is headed by Chief Health Officer and also Sanitary Inspectors. This department has been carrying out Public Health activities which are mainly of maintenance nature. For the parts like New Panvel Kalamboli, Kharghar & Dronagiri & Kamothe Nodes, the sanitation services are provided by this department.
From April 2003, a new cell, Solid Waste Management cell was formed. The sanitation job and garbage collection and disposal is handed over to that cell. This cell was under CHO. PHS has started ghantagadi system for collection, transfer & transportation of MSW.
