Shopping Mania

The entry of multinational companies and international BPOs has led to the augmentation of disposable income in middle class segment. The rapid economic growth in the region and the easy availability of bank loans has inculcated a new shopping habit in the satellite city. The phenomenon has brought about a dynamic change in the shopping habits, which marked the advent of organised retail markets in Navi Mumbai. Globalisation and economic liberalisation has dawned a new era of foreign consumer durables, including electronic goods and domestic appliances in the local market. During the last five years, there has been a tremendous growth in retail outlets of clothing, footwear, household goods, furniture, and electronic appliances in the city. This facilitated ample shopping opportunities. People enjoy shopping in malls, which offer impressive discounts. Such a trend is good and equally beneficial to buyers and sellers. The changing life style has boosted large investments in mega showrooms at various locations in Navi Mumbai. Vashi, Nerul, Kopar Khairane, and Airoli, have been acknowledged as ‘main shopping centers of Navi Mumbai’ with a number of outlets of furniture, jewellery, textiles, footwear, cosmetics, consumer durables, luggage and automobile showrooms.

Malls and Shopping Centres

With the increasing population and the per capita income, major malls with recreation facilities like multiplexes and food courts are burgeoning off Palm Beach Marg in Vashi, Sanpada, Nerul, CBD Belapur, Kharghar, Airoli, Kopar Khairane and New Panvel. Shopping and retailing outlets have continued to grow rapidly within the Navi Mumbai area commensurate to the growing demand. As Vashi is one of the oldest nodes in Navi Mumbai, it hasdeveloped as a major centre of commerce. The shopping centres have particularly flourished in Vashi node. Earlier this node had catered to most of the needs of the whole Navi Mumbai. The area is packed with retail outlets selling everything from furniture and fixtures to clothing and electronics. It hosts many restaurants and bars, sweet shops, fast food outlets like McDonald's and Domino's, popular vegetarian restaurants like Navratna, bakeries like Monginis, Cafe Coffee Day and the like. Sects 9 and 10 along the main road are also major commercial and retail areas. Number of prominent showrooms are Force Motors, Tata Motors and MRF Tyres in Sect – 1, VIP Luggage and Cambridge shop in Sect 11. Major super markets in this node are APMC Market, Food Bazaar in Sect- 30A, Mangal Deep Shopping Centre in Sect-17, Mega Mart in Sect28 and Richie Rich Departmental Stores in Sect-17 . The prominent brand shops include those of Adidas, Reebok, Woodlands, Bata, Raymonds, Cambridge, Sanskriti, Allen Solly, Green City, Princess, Palak, Mangaldeep, Benzer, Dulhan. etc. in Sect 17 of Vashi. It also has Big Splash Centre housing Fashion shops. Jewellery shops include Orra Diamonds and Titan. Sect 19 of Vashi is also a host to Furniture show rooms such as Wonder woods, Touchwoods, Style Spa Furniture, Living Room and Colorz Furniture. CENTRE ONE is the largest shopping mall located near Vashi Railway station. It hosts a variety of large and small retailers, including Pantaloon, Food Bazaar, Planet M, Geonet Computers, and Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Bombay Blue, Subway and other fast food joints. Other major up coming malls along the ‘Palm Beach Marg are Palm Beach Galleria’ and ‘City Center’. One of the biggest malls, Raghuleela Mall is getting ready near Vashi Railway Station and is slated for inauguration in the near future. Other malls under construction are ‘The Inorbit’ and ‘Dreams the Mall’.

The Nerul node has showrooms of Tata Motors, Maruti Udyog, Eisher and Piaggio. It also has many hardware and building materials shops such as Maurya Ceramics, Samrat Hardware., JK Surface quoting etc. The shopping malls in Nerul include D-mart Super Store in Sect 19, Apna Bazar in Sect 25 and Sahakar Bhavan in Sect 8. Major malls under construction are the ‘Centurian Mall’, ‘One Stop Mall’ and ‘Fantasia Mall’. Other major shopping centre is King’s Electronics. CBD Belapur has shopping centres in Sects 3, 4, 5 and 6. Other prominent outlets include Anmol Jewelers and MRF Tyres. Sects 10 and 11 of Belapur are host to dense concentrated commercial establishments including offices, restaurants and banks. The commercial and shopping complexes in Airoli include ‘Max mall’ in Sect 5, ‘Bhaskara mega mall’ and Janata Market in Sect-4 ,Saukar Bazaar in Sect-5, Commercial and shopping complexes in Koparkhairane include Honda Motors showroom in Sect-11 and Bajaj Automobiles showroom in Sect 12, Yoodly Doodly, Yo world, Lakme Beauty Salon and Apna Bazaar. Kalamboli node includes showroom of Mahindra & Mahindra, one of the known vehicle manufacturers Kharghar is budding with a number of Malls which are under construction. Some of the prominent ones under construction are ‘Little World’ and ‘Glomax’ in Sect 2, ‘Prime Mall’ in Sect12, ‘Fountain Square’ in Sect 7 and ‘Tiara Mall’ in Sect 13. Daily bazaar in Sect 14, Apna Bazaar in Sect 12 and 20, Subhiksha and Style park in Sect 12, Next Electronics showroom and Godrej Interio, the furniture showroom in Sect 20 are the other major retail outlets in this node.
