Brief & Functions
The development plan of Navi Mumbai provides an Integrated Transportation System consisting of Roads, Railways, Water transport & Airport. All the nodes are well connected by Mass Transportation System in the form of commuter railway being an economical and cost-effective mode of transportation. The city level high capacity urban expressways with controlled access are planned at the periphery of the nodes to facilitate uninterrupted flow of inter city and intra city vehicular traffic and the same are being constructed in stages. Arterial & link roads have been provided for safe and economical movement of nodal traffic within a node. Other transport systems namely Water and Air transport are also planned to provide faster modes of transport. The Transport System of Navi Mumbai has been integrated with overall transport system of Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The task of T&C Planning and Communication department is planning, design and execution of Traffic and Transportation Infrastructures as well as telecommunication system for Navi Mumbai. This department consists of two wings namely; Transportation Planning & Engineering Wing (TP&E Wing) and Civil Engineering Wing (CE Wing) headed by Additional Chief Transportation Engineer and Additional Chief Engineer (Railway Projects) respectively.
TP&E Wing is mostly engaged in Planning, Design and Preparation of working drawings for various Transportation Infrastructures which are to be executed either by CE Wing of T&C Department or by Engineering Department.
TP&E Wing is also involved in execution of works related to Traffic management such as Traffic Signals, Pavement Markings, Traffic Signs, Operation of Pay & Park Systems at Truck Terminals & Railway Stations forecourt areas and Telecommunication works. We also look after implementation of Aamra Marg on BOT basis by SPV formed by NHAI, CIDCO & JNPT.
