Rail Transport

The railway transport system of Navi Mumbai consists of commuter rail network, railway station-cum-commercial complexes, inter-city railway terminal and railway lines for goods traffic, and is planned considering an overall requirements of city for faster, economical and easy movement of men and materials.
The railway transport, also known as mass rapid transport, covering a length of 157 kms. and occupying 900 ha. area is planned with seven separate corridors and 26 stations. The first corridor of 29 kms. length, called Mankhurd-Belapur-Panvel is commissioned. It connects CST to CBD-Belapur. Six corridors in Navi Mumbai are -

The Mass Rapid Transit System, has been considered as most economical and cost effective. The six railway corridors, runs through the length and breadth as well as encircles the CBD of this city. Direct access from residential to job centres by walk, convenient interchange facility from one corridor to another, double discharge platforms at every station, easy to follow route are the main features of the commuter railway system in Navi Mumbai.
Integrated railway-station-cum-commercial complexes are being planned for all the stations and five such stations have already been built and commissioned. This space has provided a built-up space of 1,55,000 sq.m. for office use generating a potential of 15,500 jobs.
